Coming Up: Spring Crew

Spring Crew is right around the corner.  The first day of the season is Thursday, February 2.  In the coming week I will have additional posts which cover paperwork and important upcoming dates.  Please mark your calendar for the Parent Information Night on Tuesday, February 7 at 6:00 pm in our large meeting room.  It will provide an opportunity for parents to learn more about the upcoming season, volunteer opportunities, and a chance to speak with the coaches.  While we encourage all parents to attend, we strongly urge novice parents to attend.

The warming trend is finally here and the weather report calls for above freezing conditions overnight.  Because of this, we will resume our normal schedule on Saturday, January 21.  This includes Varsity and Novice rowing.  Thank you for your patience this week and we hope to see everyone at the boathouse.

Friday, January 20: Classes Cancelled

Well, so much for my predictions.  The warming trend promised for today has not arrived and conditions are still icy around town.  Seattle Public Schools have cancelled classes again for Friday, so we have made the decision to cancel as well.  A decision has not been made for Saturday morning classes, but we will have that information available by 5:00 pm Friday both here and on the calendar.

Wednesday, January 18: Classes Cancelled

Due to pending inclement weather, all classes have been cancelled for Wednesday, January 18.  We will continue to monitor the situation the rest of the week and will make decisions on a day-to-day basis.  At this point, assume we will be back to normal operation on Thursday, January 19 unless otherwise noted.

Tuesday, January 17: Practice Optional

Due to weather concerns, Mount Baker will be open this afternoon from 4:00 to 5:30, but we will not hold normal practice.  While office staff will be on hand, at this point we do not know if coaching staff will be able to make it.  Feel free to contact the boathouse at 206-386-1913 if you have any questions. We will update the calendar with any further information.

Scheduling News: Snow Days

In the event that classes are cancelled due to inclement weather, we will make every attempt to inform you on this blog, the calendar on our website, and our voice mail by noon of that day.  It may not always be possible to update the voice mail, but the calendar and blog should reflect those days that we are closed.  Generally, we will make these decisions each day based on the current conditions and the weather forecast.  You can get a pretty good idea of whether we will be holding practice based on the Seattle Public Schools schedule.  If they are closed, we will most likely be closed as well.

We understand that although we may continue to hold practice, parents may elect to keep their child at home due to local conditions or lack of reasonable transportation.  The conditions in Seattle may not reflect those in the outlying areas, and we encourage all parents to take a “safety first” approach.
